About the Sanctuary

Our Mission

MOMS Horse Sanctuary is dedicated to providing lifelong, compassionate care to senior horses who have spent their lives serving others through therapeutic and recreational riding programs. Our mission is to ensure these incredible animals live their golden years in safety, comfort, and peace — surrounded by the dignity and love they have truly earned.

We exist to honor their years of service and to give them the gentle, restful retirement every horse deserves.

What We Do

At MOMS Horse Sanctuary, we provide a permanent, loving home for senior horses who can no longer perform the work they once did.

Our care includes:

  • Nutritious senior feed & supplements

  • High-quality veterinary and dental care

  • Safe, clean stalls and well-maintained pastures

  • Gentle companionship, enrichment, and attentive daily care

  • A comforting environment where horses can simply be horses again

Every horse receives individualized attention based on their age, health, and personality. Many of our residents have spent decades helping riders learn, heal, and grow. Now we give back to them with kindness, patience, and respect.

Why It Matters

Senior horses often face uncertain futures once their working years are over. Many have dedicated their lives to supporting therapeutic programs, children’s riding lessons, and community experiences, yet few places exist where they can retire with the comfort and stability they deserve.

MOMS Horse Sanctuary fills that gap. Here, aging horses receive:

  • A lifetime home

  • Compassionate, attentive caregivers

  • Proper nutrition and medical support

  • Emotional connection and companionship

  • A peaceful environment where they can age with dignity

Your support enables us to honor their service, protect their wellbeing, and ensure that these beloved animals enjoy a safe and gentle retirement. Together, we can rewrite the final chapter of a senior horse’s life. One filled with gratitude, comfort, and love.

Leadership & Board

Our leadership reflects the same compassion and dedication we give to our horses. Each member of our Board brings a deep commitment to ensuring that every senior horse at MOMS Horse Sanctuary receives the lifelong love, safety, and dignity they deserve. Together, we guide the mission, steward donor support responsibly, and plan for a future where even more horses can find a peaceful home.

Harrison Kane, CFP® — President & Founder

MOMS stands for Meadows of Mendon Stables, the cherished family business that inspired this sanctuary and shaped Harrison’s entire life. Growing up surrounded by horses, Harrison didn’t see them as animals, he saw them as siblings, teachers, and trusted companions who shared every chapter of his childhood. These horses supported riders, comforted families, and quietly changed lives, and Harrison grew up watching the profound impact they made on the people around them.

MOMS Horse Sanctuary Inc. was founded by a son to honor his mother’s lifelong dedication to horses and the thousands of riders they supported over the years. Harrison witnessed firsthand the love, patience, and generosity that his mother poured into every horse at Meadows of Mendon Stables. As these horses aged, he felt a deep responsibility, a calling, to ensure they were cared for with the same devotion they had given to others.

For Harrison, this sanctuary is not just a nonprofit.
It is a promise.

A promise to the horses who raised him, to the animals who helped shape his identity, and to the seniors who often have nowhere else to go once their working years end. Founding MOMS Horse Sanctuary was a natural extension of his heart, a way to give back to the horses who gave him family, community, and purpose.

With his background in financial planning and his lifelong connection to horses, Harrison leads the sanctuary with compassion, stewardship, and unwavering commitment. His vision is simple yet profound:

Every senior horse deserves a peaceful home, a gentle retirement, and the dignity of being cherished for all the years they dedicated to others.

Kara McClusky — Treasurer

Kara brings a rare blend of heart, steadiness, and dedication to MOMS Horse Sanctuary. Her journey with the stables began with a love for horses and a passion for helping young riders grow with confidence. Over the years, she became one of the sanctuary’s most vital leaders, someone who can manage a bustling barn with calm focus, compassion, and an unwavering sense of safety.

Whether she’s coordinating the riding program, guiding children through their first moments on horseback, or supporting youth with clear direction and kindness, Kara brings a grounded presence that everyone, including the horses, trusts. Her ability to read a room, respond thoughtfully, and nurture a positive environment makes her an anchor in our community.

Beyond her work in the arena and barn, Kara contributes her sharp organizational mind to the administrative side of the sanctuary. She assists with accounting and financial processes, ensuring that every donation is stewarded with care. Her background in electrical and computer engineering from SUNY Oswego gives her a unique skillset that bridges problem-solving with patience, a combination that strengthens our entire leadership team.

Kara’s influence is felt everywhere: in the calm she brings to the horses, the confidence she inspires in riders, and the reliability she provides behind the scenes. She is a steady hand, a compassionate leader, and a core part of why MOMS Horse Sanctuary thrives today.

Chloe Pogoda — Secretary

Chloe’s story with Meadows of Mendon Stables began when she was just five years old,  a little girl arriving with her brother, wide-eyed and ready to learn. Over the years, the stables became her second home, and she grew into a compassionate, intuitive caregiver whose bond with the horses is nothing short of remarkable.

Chloe has an innate gift with animals. Horses soften in her presence; nervous riders relax near her; and children with disabilities find comfort and confidence through her patient guidance. From nursing care to grooming to quiet moments of connection, she approaches every task with kindness and empathy far beyond her years.

Her passion for inclusive horsemanship shines through in her work. Chloe provides back-rides for children with disabilities and teaches thoughtful, adaptive lessons for riders with unique needs. She has an extraordinary instinct for equine behavior, she notices the subtle shifts, the emotional cues, the unspoken communication that many people overlook. And she passes that knowledge on gracefully to those around her.

Driven by her desire to serve both people and horses, Chloe continually studies therapeutic techniques and horse behavior, deepening her understanding so she can give even more. Her presence enriches the sanctuary every day, helping create a safe, supportive, and joyful environment for everyone who steps through our gates.

Chloe represents the spirit of the sanctuary: gentle, dedicated, intuitive, and full of heart. Her devotion helps shape a place where both horses and humans can feel safe, seen, and deeply cared for.
